Friday Finish: Granny Patch from Patchwork Sampler Blog

I am so excited to share this quilt with you. It is Granny Patch by Lo and Behold Stitchery. I saw an Instagram post with this quilt and fell in love with its simplicity and scrappiness. I know you’re probably thinking you don’t need a pattern to make this easy checkerboard design and I thought the same thing. However, I know how much work goes into creating and publishing a pattern, so I always support the designer by buying the pattern.

I am so happy I made the purchase. The construction method is magic. It was amazing to ...

Tesu from Sew Preeti Quilts

Mom asked me to make a quilt for a young girl. Of course I said yes.

What is her name, I asked. She did not know.

How old, I enquired. Not sure, she replied.

Orange, Pink and Sparkly

At this point, I gave up. There is only so much eye-rolling I can do. I set about picking fabrics. Since I knew nothing about the recipient, my aim was to please my mother.

I chose a simple block using cream, pink and orange fabrics.

Club Tropicana from Wendy's Quilts and More

I've finished my Swatch quilt and I've called it Club Tropicana.

A while ago I started naming my quilts after my favourite songs from the 1980's and I loved Club Tropicana by Wham.  Here's link to the video in case you need a reminder.  This quilt does have some palm trees it in and the bright yellows remind me of pineapples, so Club Tropicana seemed appropriate.

This was a quick and easy quilt to make and it will be perfect for my older son.  I won't have to worry about it living on the floor ...

Swatch Quilt from Wendy's Quilts and More

Remember those fabrics I showed you last week? Well, I cut them up and made the world's fastest quilt pattern - the Swatch Quilt by Ruby Star Society.

I chose some fairly bold prints for this quilt, but I think they all work together because I've limited the colour palette to blue, yellow and pink/red/orange, with black to break it up.  I resisted my usual urge to add green because it would have been too much.

Plaids: by Kaffe Fassett Collective and also Kathy Doughty
Yellow spots: Alison Glass
Blue birds: After the Rain by Bookhou for ...

Charm Thursday Quilt Tutorial, Using Charm Squares, Free Quilt Pattern from Quiltnotes All Blogs

This quilt finishes about 65" x 78" and is made using 5" squares. You can use packages of 5" charm squares, cut your own squares or use fat quarters. This is a great scrappy quilt.

The pattern is a free download from Moda Fabrics and the link is at the end of this article. Here is the video I prepared for this quilt.

When going through my scrap fabric or after finishing a project, I use my AccuQuilt cutter to cut 5" and 10" squares. I can use the 5" charm squares and 10" layer cake squares to make many ...

Working on 3 or 4 quilts at once from Northern Deb Quilts

It's no surprise to anyone that knows me that I'm working on multiple quilts. I get bored VERY easily. I love to spend a little time on each quilt every day.

I'm currently working on piecing my Pyramid quilt, basting a quilt for a grandniece, hand quilting on Lisa's quilt and just finishing up a vintage looking quilt that uses old fabrics.
This is Lisa's. It's all hand pieced (epp). It took me over 7 years to piece so I felt it needed to be hand quilted. ****** Below are some of my vintage fabrics ...

Big T Origami Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Big T Origami Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

The smallest origami crane ever made was just .1 mm square (that’s 1/25 of an inch!) The all-time largest measured a whopping 256 feet. And this week we’re working on the world’s coziest origami!

The Big T Origami quilt is based on an antique favorite. It’s sometimes called Folded Corners, and it comes together quickly with flying geese and half square triangles.

Big T Origami Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

In this tutorial, Jenny shares the secret to perfectly sharp flying geese points, and she uses her trusty squaring tool and bias seam tape to keep everything as neat and tidy as true ...

Missing You Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Missing You Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Mamie Irene Crisp met a handsome young Coast Guardsman in 1942, just as the U.S. entered the war. In 1945, they were married.

For 55 years, Jack and Irene traveled the country in their motorhome, stopping at fishing holes all along the way. They wowed friends and family with their jitterbug skills. They adored their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. And then, in 2000, Irene was lost to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Missing You Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Alzheimer’s Awareness Month is a tender time for Jenny. You see, Irene was her beloved mother-in-law. This year, Jenny has created a beautiful new quilt in Irene’s ...

A is for Abacus.

Abacus is a bonus quilt made from leftover triangles while making the RSC blocks this year.  I made a total of 30 Sister's Choice blocks, resulting in 60 bonus blocks. In the pictures below you can see how the herd grew.

Turkey Trot Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Turkey Trot Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

The year my friend Margaret hosted her first Thanksgiving dinner, everything seemed to go wrong.

The cat left paw prints on the freshly-baked pie, the oven stopped working mid-turkey, and the little cousins ruined a white couch with a box of sidewalk chalk. (But the mashed potatoes were excellent, and so was the company!)

Turkey Trot Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Thanksgiving dinner is no small feat, but Jenny’s new Thanksgiving quilt is easy as pumpkin pie—minus the paw prints!

This pretty harvest quilt combines applique Dresden turkey blocks with a variation of the Irish Chain called Irish Change. It’s simple, quick, and “sew ...

Beauty and the Beast - Vitrine from Sew Preeti Quilts

Once upon a time before the great pandemic, I was at a fancy store admiring beautiful jewelry.  I have plenty of jewelry including some exquisite pieces from India. But the glittering stones beckoned to me.

Jewelry from India - Necklace, Earrings and Bangles

Only if I had all MY jewelry in a catalogue/showcase that I could admire every time temptation struck.

This is how this quilt feels - my pretty and adorable fabrics, including low volume beauties in a transparent display case. Hence I have named it Vitrine, a fancy word for a glass display case :-)

New Finish!!!

I had made ...

Simple quilt as you go Quilt! from Fostering Others

Sometimes you just need to make a simple quilt!  Sometimes you just want something to be simple.  Here is my simple go to quilt!

I’ve made a few of these over time.  They are so pleasant and easy to piece.  Especially when you precut them ahead of time, so when you need them, they are there.

To do this, I buy several pieces of coordinating fabric.  Usually by the yard.  Sometimes it’s a few yards. I randomly cut strips 2.5-6 inches by the width of fabric.  This will be your entire top.  I make enough to cover ...

Ask the Panel from quiltaholic

I love panel quilts. They allow you to get on with quilting without having actually to make a complicated quilt and they give you scope for experimentation without worrying about messing up a quilt that took hours to piece or wasting time on a bit of calico that you don’t know what to do with when it is finished.

I also once went on a thread painting course that was a bit of a waste of time but when I started to use a longarm I realised that panel quilts were the ideal material to practise on.

On this ...

Jenny, Natalie, and Misty in the Dresden Triple Play.

Oxygen from Sew Preeti Quilts

It started with Bernie.  She held a contest and a giveaway. I did not win. Emily did.
But then Emily forfeited her prize so it came to me. A charm pack of Moda Wovens.

A charm pack of seemingly plain (black, white and gray) fabrics did not match anything in my stash. I should've just set it aside to be addressed at a later date because January was hugely busy month for me. There was the IB Unboxing Video and post (nerve-racking), making of placemats (first IB project) and the challenge of being the first in the IB Create ...

Me: It becomes vintage?

Me: I am going to add some wine to the beef stew

Me: After I finish writing this blogpost
Paul (naughtily): I can help you finish.
Me: BRAT.  Just help me take pictures of this big quilt top, will you?

Christmas tree quilt pattern to make in one day from Pieced Brain

Christmas tree quilt pattern to make in one day

Here is a Christmas tree quilt pattern to display your favorite fabrics or to make as a scrappy quilt. Perfect as a wall hanging! I sprinkled it with stars and added the presents under the tree. No water required!

I have many large Christmas quilts and was looking for something I could hang on a wall or use as a throw. So, I designed the Tree of Joy Christmas quilt pattern. I finally got the binding done this weekend while listening to a book. Then, I left the house looking for a cool place to photograph it. I forgot to ...
